Summer Suits

So I'm going to be out of town all next week. And when I say out of town, I mean totally no internet, phone or computer... I have to be honest- I'm kinda nervos! Unplugging happens so rarely- most of the time when I go out of town I still work- I have my laptop, I'm in touch with clients over phone, etc. But not this time! I know it will be great for my head and heart to get away from work and internet land for awhile... I'm just going a bit crazy preparing for it this week!

For our trip, we're headed to Lake Shasta to live on a houseboat for a week. I'm expecting to live in my bathing suit the entire time. And for that reason alone, I'm pretty stoked!

So I drew a little illustration (trying to do that more often!) of a girl in a cute little summer suit- getting myself inspired for the trip!

I don't get a ton of opportunities to do illustration, so when Katie from Off Switch came to me asking if I would be available, I jumped at the chance!

Crazy Hair and Teal

I'm loving these beautiful illustrations by Alexandra Levasseur.
I feel like they explain how I can feel on crazy days- hair everywhere, color, patterns, everything swirling around my brain with no particular order, but somehow, it always seems to come together.

A Few Things...

#1) I had the amazing Kristin Rogers take some photos of me for my new portfolio site I'll be launching here (hopefully) soon! I fell in love with Kristin's house just from seeing it all over her Instagram, and asked her if she might be open to the possibility of shooting me there! She was so kind and said yes. You guys, her house is the cutest thing ever. Check out the pics here!

#2) When I was there, I had to get some shots of me with my laptop and coffee thermos, because they're my on the go / work anywhere / get caffeinated buddies I love to have with me. I couldn't take work pics without them!

#3) After the shoot I left her house and was so excited about the fun time we just had that I totally blanked out and forgot my coffee thermos! Not cool. I didn't think it was that big of a deal at the time, but these past few days when I've gone to reach for my to-go coffee thermos, I've had this huge let down of having to use another one- (the other one is my husband's and not nearly as cute) So I've definitely missed that thing. Kristin doesn't exactly live down the street from me, so I'll have to get it another time... it gives us another excuse to hang though! Right Kristin?! ;)

Anyways... all this to say, I was inspired to draw up a little pic of my thermos because I was missing it today. I know, it's so random, but sometimes (well, a lot of times) that's how I get inspired.


Thermos, I miss you. I took you for granted and I can't wait to have you back.

It's in the Air

With the temperature being in the straight upper 70s and low 80s all this week- I've been in weather heaven. I know that summer is coming- I see it all over with the massive amounts of good fruit at the grocery store, and flowers blooming in the gardens. It makes me want to get out in the dirt, be surrounded by greens and do some gardening.

So far, I've gotten some succulents and I haven't managed to kill them yet... so we're good for now. This weekend I'll be planing some more goodies... we'll see how that goes!

A good pair

Did these illustrations the other day, after thinking about how I need a new pair of flats, and how they're not that easy to find. Once I find the right pair of flats, I wear them way too much until they
fall apart. Well I'm in the fall apart stage of my flats right now, and really need to find a new pair.



So I drew a pic about it.

Stamps

I just fell in love with this stamp shop! Love the calligraphy and simple illustrations.
I think they would be great to have for thank you notes, customized for a wedding or even
a party!

Have a great weekend everyone... the weather here in Southern California has been gorgeous these past few days, and I'm really hoping to get to spend some time outside this weekend! Maybe a hike, or a picnic, or a trip to the beach. We'll see what happens!

Watercolors

Pink Cupcake Pumpkins and Treats!

Happy Fall everyone! I made this little illustration as a treat for you to bring a bit of brightness to
this lovely fall day. Because that's what Pink Pumpkins do. They bring happiness and joy.

Its pretty crazy that it's already fall- I had a wonderful summer, but I'm very excited for the fall.
I can't wait to carve pumpkins, (I might just have to try carving a cupcake in one...) and drink
a pumpkin spice latte. I have this thing where I can't drink a pumpkin spice latte until the day is just
fall enough. Its been too hot here in LA to get one yet, so I'm waiting for the perfect day.

Proxart #6!

So if you haven't already, head on over to Proxart.org and check out their 6th online issue!
I've mentioned them before, but they're all about art in the suburbs. They interview and showcase
other artists work and talk about how the environment they live in effects their art.

I did a little illustration for the magazine, and it was a super fun project. I had to take the tweet
"Is there a statue of the moon somewhere?" and interpret it into a visual illustration- with the
freedom to make it however humorous, serious or abstract that I wanted.
I came up with the concept of a little girl with her mother in New York looking at the statue of liberty,
but all she is really interested in is the moon. She would way rather be looking at a statue of the moon
than the statue of liberty.

It was a fun project to be apart of!

How great would it be to have a mural of an animal parade painted on your
childhood bedroom wall? What if it was painted by your friend Maurice Sendak- who would
eventually publish the award winning book, "Where the Wild Things Are"?

Thats exactly what happened to the Chertoffs Family. Before the book came out, he was asked as a friend to paint a mural for their children's bedroom wall. He came up with and painted this little masterpiece! The Chertoff's are now donating the mural to the Rosenbach Museum and Library. I have to admit, if that was on my wall, I would probably keep it for myself...

I absolutely love Sendak's illustrations, his use of color and character really makes his work one of a
kind. Good stuff.

Running and Running

I love the illustrations of Kris Atomic.
There's such character and personality in all her work- its so fun.
As for me, I just realized theres 82 more days until our wedding!
Ah! I'm so excited but I have so much to do, and I really have to
be hittin the gym a bit more these days.. :)
