Color

“Mere color, unspoiled by meaning, and unallied with definite form, can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways. ” ― Oscar Wilde
here is the source for these beautiful paintings!

Retro Rooms

Stumbled upon these bright retro photos from old homes. I kind of love the bravery of whoever decided to paint their kitchen like this. Not sure I have the guts to do something like that - and I'm positive my husband doesn't. Nor does he want to :)

But I did take the chance to pull a summery color palette out of these awesome photos!
Summer is almost over - that makes me sad... Pulling out every last bit I can!

Simple + Wonderful Photography

Stumbled upon this photographer today and fell in love with his clean use of subjects, color and patterns. When something is so simple, yet so cleverly beautiful, you know they're doing something right.

Check out more of his awesome work here.

Thursday Morning Inspiration.

I just love everything about these prints.
Patterns, color, texture, it's all there.
That zebra one would look great on a studio wall- don't you think?

The Coolest.

How cool are these toasters? I'm in love with the blue one.
Right now our kitchen is so tiny we really have no room for another appliance on our counter tops-
but one day- this little toaster will be where I toast my breakfast bread in the mornings...

Pretty Cards.

These cards have such a beautiful way of composing colors, graphics and lines. Don't you think?

I'm a fan.

Some Pics

From our trip to Seattle last week. We totally did the tourist thing and went on the Underground
Seattle tour and Pikes Place Market. My Seattle-native husband was nice to do them with me :)

We also went to the Tulip Festival- this wonderful Northwest thing where there's a ton of color coordinated tulips all over the place- pretty beautiful.

We even managed to get a few days of sun while we were up there!

Such a fun fun trip :)

my guest post on craft snob!

i had the opportunity to do a guest post over on this lovely craft blog today.
its confession time- i'm really not that great of a crafter, i just really want to be and totally
pretend that i am. so i have to admit i was a little intimidated when sara from Craft Snob
asked me to come up with a tutorial for how to make a Christmas tree ornament!

i originally thought i would just do a pdf download of something i designed (that i can do!)
but then once i got going, i thought, "i can totally make this in real life!" so i did. and you
can see how i did it right here!

i think it came out lookin pretty good! its full of patterns and color- so i like that :)

Photobucket

so head over to my guest post on Craft Snob, learn how to make this baby and show some love!

Happy Thursday everyone!!

Settin the Mood

So I really enjoy creating mood boards for clients- depending on the project.

It think it helps to set a "mood" of the project before you really get going designing.

It brings me back to high school when my binder was filled with pictures and magazine
cutouts slipped behind that plastic cover that never failed to crinkle and ruin your photos. (That always really bugged me.)

Everyone did it, it showed the people in your classes who you were, if you were artsy you would have artsy pics, if you were obsessed with your boyfriend your binder was plastered with photos of the two of you together. I guess high school binders were really like mood boards for teenagers.

Kinda like Facebook these days... wow I feel old...

Anyways here are some mood boards I've done recently.

The binder cover-like setting the mood for the projects!

Yay for moods! Set yours today- a good one preferably :)

Happy Thursday!

Logo Inspired

Logos are one of my favorite things to create for people and their businesses.

Today I'm inspired by these logos. The shapes, colors and type are so well done.

Photobucket

If I get some spare time today, I'm totally going to make some logos, just for funzies.

Do people do that? I think everyone should. Cause its fun.

Make something you enjoy today, just for fun. No reason, no client, no nothin. Just do it
cause you like it. Doesn't that sound awesome?

We'll call it Totally Tubular Tuesday.

I'm already excited...

A Big Decision and A Re-Brand

So I was watching "The September Issue" with Nolan the other day, (great documentary if
you haven't seen it) and one thing that Anna Wintour (the Editor-in-chief of US Vouge) said
was her greatest strength was decisiveness. This hit me hard because I am the least decisive person
on the plantet. I get so overwhelmed with how many cool things you can do that I tend not
to do them! This is a no-no and now its time for a change.

That being said- I have made the decision to go full time freelance.
Yup- I am now a full time freelance graphic designer! Ah! With the events that have
recently happened in my life, and the circumstances I have been given, I know and feel totally
(almost!) confident that this is the perfect next step for me as a graphic designer.
Just saying that and blogging that is a really big step for me. But I want to be honest
and open with you guys and think you should be in on what I'm up to :) Its kinda scary,
and its not easy at all, but I'm ready for the challenge and can't wait to see what comes of it.

So now here's for the fun part: my re-branding inspiration!

With this new decision I have decided to do a re-brand of myself and start fresh- (one of those
reasons being I have a sweet new last name I want to show off :)

So I've been experimenting with a new color palette, and again, ms. indecisive over here can't
seem to make a decision. I need something that is fun and reflects the kind of designer I am.

Here's some of my inspiration so far:

So tough. What do you guys think? Any freelancers out there have some suggestions for a
newbie like me??

Anyways today is national coffee day so I'm going to pour myself another cup and get going on
my workload for the day.

Have a great Thursday everyone!!

Patterns, People, and a Sweet Tumblr.

Photobucket

I'm really digging this Tumblr site you can categorize by color.

I'm also liking the color orange in these patterns and on these people.

All found on that same Tumblr. Cool beans.

Food on Etsy!

Photobucket

So I don't know if I'm just late hoppin on this bandwagon, but I never knew that you could
order food products off of Etsy! For all you bakers out there, it might be a good idea to look
into selling your products on Etsy. I mean, why not have fun baking while making a bit of
moolah?

I'm loving the colors of these pastel buttercream cookies. I would consider ordering them for
a party... I know they would look great on a table set for summer!

Got that color feeling...

Photobucket

Just felt like a good day for some brightness.

1: This red red parasol would be a wonderful prop for a photo shoot or decoration for a wedding.
2: Feelin this orange scarf? Pair it with some shorts for a bright summer evening outfit!
3: Yellow place settings? Yes Pleease.
4: Pop goes the color with this geen wallet.
5: "Life is the art of drawing without an eraser." Amen.
6: Cute puppy pillow.
7: Purple Polka dot dress. Lovely.
